The Strategy • Raising self-esteem in high school students
The Method • Hands-on participation that results in finished products and healthy competition

Project Runway meets The Apprentice and reality meets substance . . .

“Every young person will find a pathway to prosperity.” This is the vision of Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

A great believer in NFTE’s mission, JAMAH, designer of handbags, men’s bags, accessories and home pieces, presents In True Fashion. Together with NFTE we are able to bring to life a much-needed resource for building better futures in our community.

While NFTE achieves amazing success in reaching beyond the limits of the great challenges of life in low-income communities, In True Fashion focuses on overcoming the obstacles of the limitless boundaries of low self-esteem and the need to bring labor back to the USA.

High school students explore their creativity through the In True Fashion apprenticeship program, which includes workshops with expert mentors, factory time and business planning. They learn what it takes to run every aspect of a business. In True Fashion preserves and honors American craftsmanship. The personal empowerment gained from the In True Fashion experience and the appreciation for products that are made in the USA will positively affect generations to come. It is time to take pride in what it means to be “Made in the USA.”

Spearheaded by JAMAH, the journey educates teams of students through the manufacturing process from JAMAH product inception to financing to marketing. Their hard work culminates in finished bags that are exposed to the world. The designs are voted on and the winning bag is taken into production and sold to the public as a new addition to the JAMAH Collection. Honoring cause & commerce, every time the winning bag is purchased, a portion of its proceeds will go to NFTE and the acting high school. Through the process the students cultivate their work ethic and a consciousness of their surroundings while they discover their inner talent. They develop skills that help build their self-esteem and learn what it means to give back.

In True Fashion is honored to be a vital part of NFTE’s Los Angeles office. The relationship is beneficial in nurturing young people of our communities. Ultimately, established companies that manufacture products in the USA will be able to join as mentoring companies.

A journey beyond Cause & Commerce, In True Fashion pays it forward enforcing Cause & Cause.

  • I really appreciate the fact that in your first paragraph of "In True Fashion" you are talking about the importance of educating the youth by steering them away from imported products.
Cheap is not always good. Most the time, you get what you pay for
Although the silk used in my products are imported, all the work that goes into making them quality articles of wearable art is "Made and produced in the USA".
From the dyes used to the printing to the sewing, all is from small US manufacturers and we are very proud of that fact.
